United Nations For Kids
The United Nations was formed on 24Oct 1945 when representatives of 50 countries signed the UN Charter.Today 192 countries are part of UN. The main objectives of the UN are to maintain peace and develop friendly relations among the member countries.It is also invovled in solving social problems worldwide. The UN works through 6 main bodies-General Assembly,Security Council,Trusteeship Council,Secretariat and International Court of Justice.The General Assembly is the main body of UN.The Security Council has 15 members including 5 permanent members-US,Russia,UK,France and China.The Economic and Social Council has many agencies.Some of them are UNESCO,UNICEF,WHO and FAO.The General Assembly is the main body of UN.The Secretary-General is the highest official of the Secretariat.International legal problems are solved by the International Court of Justice.India is one of the founder members of the UN.It actively participates in the peace keeping efforts of UN.It is also invovled in the relief operations carried out by the UN agencies.
