Parelles And Meridians
Parallels- The full circles that run from east to west are called lines of latitude or parallels. Parallels are drawn from east to west.They are parallels so they donot cross each other. They are 181 in number.They are set of full circle.They help us in calculating the temperature of a place.They are also called latitude.
Meridians- The word meridian comes from the Latin word meridies which means midday.It is from the word meridian that we get words such as ante meridiem am meaning before noon and post meridiem pm meaning afternoon. Meridians are drawn from north to south. They meet at the poles.They are 360 in number.They are a set of semi-circle.They help in calculating the location of a place.They are called longitude.
Prime Meridian- The meridian passing through the Greenwich is named as Prime Meridian.It is marked as 0 degree.It is the starting point of all the meridians.We can calculate the time of the place.
Axis- Imaginary line passing through two extreme point on a sphere.
Equator- The longest parallel which divides the earth into two equal parts.
Grid- The network of parallels and meridian on the globe which help us to locate places.
Northern Hemisphere- Part of the earth which is towards the north of the equator.
Southern Hemisphere- Part of the earth which is towards the south of the equator.
