India has a multi-party system.Different parties put up their candidates for election.The party that gets the maximum votes form the government.Sometimes many parties come together and form the government.This is called a coalition govt.

The party that forms the government then elects its leader.The President elects this person as the Prime Minister.He then forms the union cabinet.The ministers appointed be either from the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha.
