Coal In India

The main coal deposits are found in the Damodar valley or in the Jharkhand-Bengal coal belt.Raniganj,Jharia,Giridih,Bokaro and Karanpura are the main coal fields in India.The other coal fields are found in the valleys of the Godavari,Wardha,Son and Mahanadi.The main coal fields of this region are found in Singrauli,Umaria,Sohagpur,Korba and Raigarh in MP,Korba and Raigarh in Chattisgarh,Keonjhar and Talcher in Orissa,chanda in Maharashtra and Singreni in AP.Some coal is also mined in West Bengal near Darjeeling in the Makum and Lakhimpur areas of Assam. Lignite coal deposits also exist in Neyveli in Tamil Nadu;the Pallu fields in Rajasthan and the Raisi area in Jammu.
