There are many small islands along the India's coastal plains.Away from these plains there are two big groups of islands.These are the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the Lakshadweep Islands.

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a group of over 350 islands in the Bay of Bengal.They are spread over 8000 sqkms.The ten degree channel separates the Andaman Islands towards the north from the Nicobar Islands towards the south.Indira Point is part of the Nicobar Islands.

Some islands in the group are of volcanic origin.They are covered with thick forests.Only some islands are inhabited mostly by tribals.

Port Blair is the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
