The Issue Of Child Labour
In the absence of the any reliable statistics ,it is estimated that the number of working children remained extremely high the world over.There is hardly any country that is entirely free of child labour.The internationally recommended minimum age for work was 15 years according to International Labour Organization Convention. From different official sources,the International Labour Organization estimated that more than 73 million children in the age-group 10-14 were economically active which was about 13% of all the children in that age-group.
According to status of world children’s report ,child labour has increased even in central and Eastern European countries as a result of the abrupt switch from centrally planned to market economies.In the industrialized countries such as UK and USA the growth of the service sector and the quest for more flexible workforce have contributed to an expansion of child labour.Political unrest and HIV/AIDS in African countries have resulted in increasing dependence on child labour.
