How Is Gaming Good For Children

    By

    Saruf Alam

Gaming is one of the most popular choices of entertainment today. This is mostly because of the technological advancement which gives us very high resolution, fun and very innovative games. The new consoles like the Nintendo Wii, Play station 3 and the Xbox 360 have swept over the world and found space in many people’s houses. But, not only are they so very good but they are a nightmare for parents because of all the time their children waste while sucked into the story of the game. I myself love to know what parents have against games like these but I never get an answer to this question. All I get is some angry parents who say games aren’t good at all, well, here are some few points why you can tell your parents that they are wrong.

First point would be that there are many different types of games in the market; it depends on what games you play. If someone plays Sudoku or brain challenges they don’t have a “gaming problem” but they are more likely increasing knowledge. The other games with less or no learning values are also beneficial. In our brain, we have “happy chemicals” these chemicals are secreted in the brain when we do something fun. These chemicals are the reason why internet is so popular because for no apparent reason, these chemicals are secreted into the brain automatically. One of these chemicals called dopamine is also secreted automatically when a person plays a game. This has decreased the rate of depression (a disease causing unbearable sadness) around the whole world. Dopamine not only makes you happy but it decreases stress, increases brain functionality and brain usage levels; ultimately helping your mental strength. There was a test in England in which children who played games were given a memory quiz; they did much better than the children who didn’t play games. Games also increase physical reaction by speeding up your reaction time, accuracy and flexibility. In England, there was a test in which surgeons were supposed to play games for 30 minutes a day and then do their surgeries. These surgeons did their surgeries 20 times better, accurately and faster than an average surgeon. Games where the graphics are very good not decrease but actually increase your eye sight because you exercise the muscles by moving around your eye so much and because the graphics make it very easy to do so. Games increase your motor skills because you do all your actions without constantly looking at your hands making it much easier to control them in real life without looking at them. Although, beware, these tips are only for people control their gaming everyday to a maximum of 1 hour. Playing for prolonged periods do damage your body.
