Verbs Transitive And Intransitive
A verb is the most important part of speech because there can be no sentence without it.For example-
The boy plays.
The clock strikes ten.
The words plays and strikes are verbs and tell us what the subject of the sentence does.
A transitive verb is a verb that requires an object(the action denoted by the verb passes over from the doer or subject to an object).
All boys love cricket
Fleming discovered penicillin.
An intransitive verb which does not require an object (the action of the verb does not pass over to an object or which expresses a state or being)
The baby sleeps.
The children laugh loudly.
Some verbs can be used both transitively and intransitively.
He plays cricket ( transitive)
He plays all day.( intransitive)
