Adjectives
Adjectives are words that describe a noun or a pronoun.For example
- The hungry lion chased the striped Zebra.
- The busy street was filled with big cars.
- The tired woman sat on the new bench in a beautiful park.
- The clever boy won a cool bike in a contest.
Kinds of adjectives:
Adjectives can be divided into following classes.
- Adjectives of quality - show or describe the quality of a person,place,thing or feeling and answers the question of what kind.- My father is a kind man
- Adjectives of quantity -Quantity of a thing and answers the question,how much.He did not want any food.
- Adjectives of number-How many persons or things are meant and answers the question how many.They refer to countable nouns. Each pencil cost rupees three.
- Demonstrative adjectives-Which person or thing is meant.The answer the question ,which.This boy is very naughty.
- Interrogative adjectives- When,what ,which and whose are followed by nouns and used to ask questions. What games do you like to play?
- Emphasising adjectives- The words very and own are used as emphasising adjectives.Did you see it with your own eyes?
- Exclamatory adjectives- The word what is sometimes used as a exclamatory adjective.What a fantastic idea!
- Possessive adjectives- To whom a certain person or thing belongs.It answers the question,whise.This is my bag.
