    Global Warming

    By Saruf Alam

Most of the people reading this essay would know what global warming is; unfortunately because it is a very current and the most dangerous out of them all. Global warming is the warming of the atmosphere in Earth but it sounds less devastating than its effects.  Global warming can destroy all the forest, food crops, live creatures and alter the atmosphere to make it impossible for us to live. Global warming is melting the South and North Pole. This will cause the water bodies in the whole world to increase water levels flooding all countries. In the movie “The Inconvenient Truth”, Al gore showed how all the islands will disappear, how all the countries will shrink rapidly and how our map will change forever. Global warming itself is a big problem but all the other reasons that cause it are also a huge problem we face.

One of the biggest causes of global warming is pollution. Air and land pollution are the major types of pollution that cause global warming. In air pollution, we send out harmful emissions through cars, factory chimneys, smoking cigarettes and other activities that send harmful emission (smoke, carbon monoxide and other gases) in to the sky. It is very bad for people with asthma and it harms the lungs of many people. Sometimes the snot in our nose also turns black due to this. All the emissions caused by air pollution mixes in the rain clouds and mix with the water. When this harmful water rains, it is called acid rain (acid rain water is usually warm). Acid rain harms the trees, after each acid rain, many trees die because the acid is taken in by them and they die; it is just like poison or mercury to us, it harms and also kills.

The harmful emissions due to air pollution harm the ozone layer and make it very thin. Ozone layer protects us from the Ultra violet rays that the sun gives. UV rays harm the earth and also our skin it also warms where it goes. There is an ozone layer depletion somewhere closes to Australia and is causing many troubles there. CFC emissions also harm the ozone layer. When the UV rays come into the Earth’s atmosphere they bounce everywhere but cannot get out because the same emissions and the ozone layer block the exits. Like this UV rays keep coming into the Earth but don’t come out, causing the whole atmosphere to become really warm. This is called the Green house effect because in Green house gases, the warmth and moisture goes in but doesn’t come out.

Land pollution itself is also a very big problem. In land pollution all of us throw of many things we don’t have use of. These are usually collected and thrown into a big dumpster. We throw many things but we have no idea how to get rid of them and slowly we collect a huge amount of waste that is of no use. We usually need so much space that we cannot make new buildings or places for renewable energy sources. We use a lot of coal and energy to make the coca cola cans that we use for 5 minutes then throw away. All the energy also causes the emissions that pollute the air because the byproduct of burning coal is smoke. To place lots of our waste we cut trees to get another spot to dump our garbage. The trees take in carbon and give out oxygen so we can breathe and all the emissions harming us decrease in size. The waste we dump gives out a gas called methane which is highly flammable and is also very stinky, that is why the dumpster is not attractive. Methane is also one of the different kinds of harmful emissions. It is bad because we have a lot of waste that also leaves methane.

Deforestation and logging is also a factor causing global warming. Trees as I have explained before take in carbon and give out oxygen. This not only helps us but also helps purify the air of harmful emissions. Unfortunately many people cut down trees for coal, wood, land and many other reasons. Every day a forest is cut down. By cutting down trees and destroying forests, we destroy the habitats of many animals. They then get confused and die because they become lost. By cutting trees we also decrease the production of oxygen. If we kill too many trees, we will die ourselves. The Amazon rainforest is the largest forest in the world and is called the lungs of our planet.

All of us children can also do our parts to save the Earth. Recycle cans, bottles and other waste. Have a compost bin so you can throw the food which will make the soil in the area much healthier. Buy CFC free refrigerators and items so we can cause less harm. Plant trees and flowers and take care of them. Support companies and NGOs trying to help save the Earth. Buy solar powered homes. Try to use your car less and also buy eco friendly cars. You can do many things to save our home.
