The United Nations has adopted a resolution which recognizes access to clean water and sanitation as a human right.The UN General Assembly resolution sponsored by Bolivia received 122 votes in favour and 41 countries abstained. The resolution states that the right to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation as a human right that is essential for the full enjoyment of the right to life. There are currently 884 million people without access to safe drinking water and more than 2.6 billion donot have access to basic sanitation.Around 1.5 million children die each year of water and sanitation related diseases.
